Injury and Exercise

We have all been injured at one time or another, an ill timed kite loop or that sudden gust that caught us unaware. Once injured we promise that it won't stop us from enjoying our sport....................but it does, An injury needs time to heal.

But lets be honest, we don't exactly look after ourselfs do we? Any sport involves pushing our bodies, how many of us stand on the beach doing our warmup exercises, doing our stretches, before we start exerting ourselfs. Even less of us do cool down excercises when we have finished, so is it any wonder we get injured and take a long time to heal.

For most of us it is important that we recover as soon as possible, not least so we can get back out and enjoy our sport but because we have our everyday life to look after. Going out to work to keep a roof over our heads and to pay for our next must have kite surfing accessory.

So when you get injured, get yourself along to the doctor and find out what is wrong with you, sound easy, but we do we go to the doctors...........no. How many of us wait 2 or 3 week before we go along to the doctor while still trying to continue a normal home life and carry on flying normally leading to delayed healing and even further injury.

But visiting the doctors and getting the correct diagnosing for the injury is only part of the recovery process, the other part is how you live with your injury and get back to full fitness as soon as possible. This is where the Internet can help you. You won't be the first person to dislocate their shoulder or twist their knee. There is a vast amount of information about sports injures on the Internet, reading some of this information will give you a better understanding of your injury. You can read about alternative forms of treatment, be it medical or complimentary. There may even be information on the Internet that you can pass on to your GP or maybe you want to get a second opinion from a specialist sports doctor or sports physiotherapist. The links below list web sites that talk about injuries and there recovery along with web sites that can supply everything from a bandage to a knee support that would look more at home in a medieval castle

As mentioned earlier, how many of you do any excercise on the beach before hit the water ? How many of you do any excercise? Excercise won't stop the major injuries but it will stop the minor muscle and joint strains and being fit will help the healing process when you do pickup an injury. So I have added to the list below some web sites that show you some basic stretching excercises that will help loossen the body ready for the excertion you are about to impose on it.

Remember if you do get injured get medical assistance as soon as possible, don't wait until you can't stand the pain any longer and don't use the Internet diagnose your injuries.
